In 2013, Jeff learned about Tight & Nerdy's AL-Stravaganza due to an unending series of friends sending him info about it. So obviously, he had to check it out.
After the show, another attendee stated, "I feel like I'm in a mental institution."
At this point, Jeff was fully committed.
After meeting some of the Tight & Nerdy cast members, Jeff watched in awe as they traveled up and down the west coast and ventured into the midwest, delighting crowds everywhere.
About a year later, Al-Stravaganza finally returned to Los Angeles. Jeff was, of course, back to see it.
A few days after the show, Pickles reached out to Jeff to pitch the idea of a Tight & Nerdy documentary.
After decades in unscripted television, Jeff is painfully aware that in general, when someone says they'd make a great subject for a doc or reality show, that's usually the first sign that they won't. But in this case, Jeff was intrigued.
He talked about it with his writing/producing partner Jonathan, who didn't even hesitate for a moment. Seems like they were going to make a movie!
Beginning in 2015, the Tight & Nerdy team allowed Jeff & Jonathan to infiltrate their lives.
They had no idea that Pickles, Marla, Odessa & Pearl E were about to take them on a multi-year journey of love, friendship and, yes, weirdness.
With each passing day, their stories became richer and more surprising. Jeff & Jonathan realized quickly that the film they are shooting is about more than just a strange burlesque show. It is a story for anyone who ever felt they didn't fit in.
Jeff & Jonathan shot several events over the course of the next few years, including about a half dozen of the Al-Stravaganza shows.
Even Weird Al himself graciously stopped by for an interview!
Now, all Jeff & Jonathan have to do is, you know, finish the movie.
Their goal is to have a full-length feature ready by the Fall of 2023 in order to hit the festival circuit.
And if all goes well, you'll eventually be able to see the film on a big (or small) screen!
